Jesse Hall wins first ProBASE season event

Jesse Hall from the US took first place at the ProBASE Track Race, sponsored by APEX BASE, PRESSURIZED, INTRUDAIR and TAG HEUER, which kicked off the ProBASE World Cup Tour 2011 at Kjerag, ahead of Norwegian Alex Polli and fellow american Neil Amonson.

The event was held during the annual Heli Boogie at Kjerag in Norway, one of the most famous BASE Jump locations world wide. Things kicked off on thursday the 22nd of June with 3 qualification rounds. 26 jumpers from 13 nations had registered and since it was the first tracking race ever held, there were no real favorites to begin with. Amongst the competitors were also 3 women, Australian Livia Dickie, winner of the women´s category of last years ProBASE World Cup event in Switzerland, Norwegian local Rima el Masri and German competition newcomer Susanne Lampe.
The first 3 rounds already showed a pretty clear line out of where things were headed when the Americans Hall and Amonson, both sponsored by Gopro, consistently were amongst the fastest times. Closely behind however followed the Norwegian brothers Thomas and Daniel Ferger, 2 novice BASE Jumpers who had entered their first competition ever. The times posted by the fastest trackers were quite close and the fight for the 8 semi final slots was on. Another big surprise was Susi Lampe who flew top times in each round and posted the 6th fastest overall time after 3 pre-rounds.
On thursday and friday the rain and fog didn´t allow for any competition rounds to be completed and so the hopes rested on the last day, saturday, to complete the race. Saturday did not disappoint and after an early start and the final jumpers finishing their third round, the 8 semi finalists were announced. Besides Hall, Amonson and the Ferger brothers, Alex Polli, Kyle Sul, Susi Lampe and Victor Kovats, the only competitor flying an Intrudair suit, made it into the semis. Unfortunately Daniel Ferger could not stay until saturday due to a previous commitment and gave up his semi final slot to the "fastest flying finn", Rami Kajala, who was 9th after the Qualification rounds.
In the semi finals Alex Polli posted the 2nd fastest time behind Jesse Hall and set himself up for a race for victory. Neil Amonson and "rookie of the year" Thomas Ferger occupied 3rd and fourth and raced for third place.
In the finals the tension rose, this was it, man against man, win or lose, the time didn´t matter. Crossing the finish line first was what it was all about. Neil and Thomas went off first and Neil clearly showed that routine does make a difference by beating Thomas Ferger to third place. He took home a Pressurized Tube 3 Track Suit as his prize, the latest model in a series of tracking suits available.
In the final race, the one determining the winner, Jesse Hall left no doubt about who was the king of Kjerag that year. He beat Alex Polli marking the fastest time flown throughout the entire competition(!), claiming the 500$ winners cheque. Alex Polli won an Intrudair Track Suit, the model that had powered Victor Kovats into the semis.
After a long day everyone was in high spirits celebrating an amazing week with awesome jumps and a great race which will be repeated again next year.
The ProBASE World Cup Tour next moves down to Greece for an accuracy event held from AUGUST 11TH TO 14TH 2011 at the island of Symi. The overall winner of the Tour receives a full one year Sponsorship by APEX BASE valued at $5000.
